I applaud your effort but this is so flawed as a man-carrying flying machine, everything from your drilling method, fasteners, materials, lack of structural integrity and bracing, right down to the design, is flawed and unsafe. (put the plastic under the keel so you do not have to tape it as much) Then either sew on if you are using fabric, or tape on if you are using plastic. SAIL: Lay the frame on top of the sail, then cut it out 1ft away from the frame to give the glider billows. NOSE: I used a t shaped plate I found at the hardware store, and put one on the top and one on the bottom of the tubes so it was strong. I put my crossbar at 14ft down from the nose on each leading edge and bolted it. My leading edge lengths were 16ft, and my crossbar was 18ft. (what I should've done to sleeve the pieces is just put a tube on top of the other and bolt it, but I didn't do that) The way I sleeved them worked alright, could've been better.ĭIMENSIONS: The keel on mine was 22ft with sail going to 20ft so I had room to connect wiring. So what I did to connect the tubes is get a 1ft segment of 1 inch steel, put the aluminum in the steel tube and bolt it. I have checked everything out thoroughly and it’s an A1 starter (see video link). It has a brand new battery, prop brake (essential for soaring) spare Bendix drive for the starter, charger for the battery, fuel filter, plug, even a parachute deployment bag if you have a ‘cute that will fit it. The ‘bug is in superb condition and looks almost new, indeed the prop looks like it’s never been spun. It comes with pneumatic wheels that are essential for FLHG and two spare uprights.

The wing is in very good condition, with only a small professional repair 5” x 11” (that’s what the limit lines are for guys!) I have checked it out very carefully and made sure I would be happy to fly it. It launches easily and climbs beautifully, with engine off thermalling, air starts and leisurely cruising easy pleasures.

The Target was always the go to wing, being easy to launch and handle, and the Doodlebug was designed with the Target in mind. This is the ultimate combination for foot launched hang gliding. Sadly age has wearied me and the years have condemned and the sprinter of the past has to accept his limitations, hopefully wheels that I used then will remain a little smaller than those that I might need to be pushed on in the future! Having recently got into microlighting, thought that this would be ideal adjunct.

I worked for Flylight and built the first 64 Doodlebugs and I acquired this FLHG combo in a fit of nostalgia, as I’d always wanted the electric start version. Ps I have many other pictures but could not upload onto this site? anyone interested and I will gladly e mail other have a very soft spot for the Doodlebug (and Target), being the second person to fly one after its designer Ben Ashman, and flew one for years. I think the pictures give a good guide to all of the eqipments condition which I claim is very good but not Mint. I’m 42″ chest but short, and the smaller one fits well but shoulder straps taken down to minimum. The Harnesses should, respectively, fit 5’6″to 5’9″ and 5’9″ to 6’Slim build. The hours run time is estimated at 50 hours and known to have been flown on an infrequent basis and never crashed.

The Radni Rocket engine is manual start and has been periodically fired up to keep moving parts free from sticking. The system is the Mark 2 model with the “120” engine, ready to fly complete including two Solar Wings folding props, Two Solar wings Edge Harnesses, a few spare parts and Solar Wings Manual.(Glider not included)In addition to the standard “Gob” throttle I have added a manual throttle lever attached to the Booster Body I bought the unit second hand four years ago with lots of good intentions but have never flown it.
